Personalism and European Integration: Jacques Delors and the Legacy of the 1930s

This article addresses the influence of personalism – an anti-liberal, anti-socialist intellectual movement which developed in France 1930s on process European integration during Commission presidency Jacques Delors (1985–95). The received wisdom is that personalist tradition contributed to shaping early developments 1950s but its later declined with consolidation bipolar equilibrium Europe. Instead, this work shows gradually re-emerged mid-1970s and 1980s inspired Commission's search for anti-individualist social model, supranational democratisation continental vision after 1989.
